Steven Stamer is an oboist based in Tallahasse, Florida. Steven has performed with groups such as the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Lyric Theatre at Illinois, and Notre Dame Sacred Music. He worked for two years leading the education department of a mid-sized symphony, where he organized over one hundred chamber music performances, taught courses on classical music, and worked with local organizations to bring musical programming to thousands of audience members.
He earned a Master of Music in Performance and Literature studying with John Dee at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he focused on orchestral playing and historically informed performance. He received his undergraduate degree from the Ohio University Honors Tutorial College, studying with Michele Fiala and Dwight Perry. Steven's undergraduate thesis, "The Last Rose of Summer: The Discovery of a Lost Work of A.M.R. Barret" led to the publication of a new edition of A.M.R. Barret's "Fantasy on the Last Rose of Summer" by TrevCo Music Publishing.
Steven is well-versed in all styles of orchestral performance, and he has a particular interest in performing early music on both modern and historical instruments. Steven is currently studying at Florida State University to earn the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance.
He also maintains a small, private oboe studio and makes reeds for himself and his students. In addition to his musical life he loves to cook, read, and spend time with his two perfect cats, Nora and Oliver.
